Closet Cosplay: Happy Hobbit Day!

My dear Fangirls and Fanboys! Geeks and nerds!

Today we celebrate the birthday of two very important hobbits: Bilbo and Frodo Baggins!!!

It's also the 80th anniversary of the Hobbit being published!

Because of that I decided to put together a little closet cosplay of the unexpected adventurer himself: Mr. Bilbo Baggins!

I do eventually want to make this costume even better (hairy feet and all!) by dying the pants, sewing a real hobbit shirt + vest, and adding other details.

I am currently re-reading the Hobbit, which I haven't done since the movies were released. It's a lot more interesting this time around! Before I found it terribly boring for some reason. Now I love picturing Peter Jackson's versions inside the book situations. (Thorin especially.)

In order to take these photos I did, in fact, walk around our woods in my bare feet! (Occasionally with flip-flops.) I also sat on a family of pill bugs in that tree and kept shouting "SMILE" at my phone. (Plus many, many obscenities!) I'm sure the neighbors think I'm crazy, but the citizens of Hobbiton also thought Bilbo was crazy, and look at his story! It was an adventure in itself trying to take these pictures.

I leave you with me channeling my inner Martin Freeman:

Don't take it personally though! My DSLR was acting up, so I had to use my phone instead before I lost the light! Also flipping sneaky birds is what Mr. Freeman would want! 😉

Hope you had a happy Hobbit Day!
Don't forget to eat your second breakfast!
Elevensies!
Luncheon!
Afternoon Tea!
Dinner!
Supper!
(And maybe a midnight snack while you're at it!)

Eleven's Eggo Hat

Galentine's day is pretty much over and Valentine's day has just begun, BUT I still want to take time to celebrate one of the most badass gals out there: Eleven from Stranger Things! (And her love for Eggos!)

Those of us who have watched Stranger Things know that if Eleven could be a fangirl of anything she'd be one for Eggos. The minute I saw the trailer for season 2 I got the idea for a waffle hat and started designing! It's too bad that we have to wait until Halloween for more episodes, but knitting a few waffles will keep a person busy in the meantime, right?

I'm here to kick ass and eat Eggos. And I'm all out of Eggos.
I hope to have the (free!) pattern up in the next few weeks if nothing gets in the way. I'm currently working out the kinks in how I've been writing the pattern. If anyone is interested in pre-testing it leave me a comment and we'll chat!

UPDATE 10/30/17: Pattern now available for fee on Ravelry!
Get it here!

Should I stay or should Eggo?

This hat is ridiculously comfortable and warm! A perfect thermal hat for colder weather. Best part is that if you're not a huge fan or Eggos and waffles (for SHAME) this pattern is subtle enough to get away with not looking like one. Oh, and did I mention it's REVERSIBLE?

So knitters, stay tuned for the pattern! If anyone is interested in having their very own hat and don't knit or don't feel like it, let me know and I'd be happy to make one for you!

This was really fun to shoot! My personal photographer (mom) and I ventured deep into our neighboring woods and basically had a great time getting dirty and goofing off! (No matter how serious I look, I can't help being a huge dork underneath.) I was quite proud of my make up and styling for this shoot too. All of the pieces for the outfit came from thrift stores. The collar was from a button-up that I altered to make into a Peter Pan shape, and I can't wait to wear it with more outfits!

Friends don't lie, Thanks for stopping by and reading my post!

Are you excited for Stranger Things to return?? Let me know in the comments!

By the way, this post is in no way sponsored by Eggo or Netflix. Believe me, guys, I'd tell you if that happened. In fact, I'd never shut up about it.

Happy Wholidays!

And a very Merry Christmas to those celebrating! (Or should I say "Happy Christmas"?)

I'm particularly excited for the new episode of Doctor Who airing tonight! (And in another week we'll have a new Sherlock too!) How about you?

Last year I went to Doctor Wholidays at the Museum of Pop Culture (formerly know as the EMP) with one of my best friends (Aysel of the Widdershins Witch) & her family. It was such a blast!

We both managed to pull together two last minute gender-bent Doctor cosplays too!

photo by Jim Bennett for EMP

Mine was based on a drawing of Amy and some other companions dressed as their Doctors I found from Deviant art via Pinterest. The artist's page is no longer active, but you can still see the picture here:

I was quite happy with what I was able to pull together in a day! And taking pictures with a (mostly) real TARDIS was so much fun!

Aysel had her littles with her, so she couldn't go to 21+ trivia with me. Still I hung out for a while and had a "Sonic Screwdriver" for the heck of it.

Time to get wibbly wobbly!

I do wish they had added some blue curacao or midori for aesthetic (and taste! I don't like screwdrivers apparently, lol. Or maybe it just wasn't sonic-y enough for me...)

Besides the photo-ops and trivia, there were crafts for kids, featured videos, a fantastic costume contest, and full access to a few of the exhibits! Then near the end of the night they had a dance party!

The kids really loved meeting their favorite Doctor Who characters like the Daleks and K-9 in real life.

Like many conventions, people were dressed up, festive, and so very friendly! I love the comraderey that fandoms bring to us.

I highly recommend this event if you are near Seattle in December and love Doctor Who! It doesn't hurt to bring a group of friends along either. The more the merrier!

Good tidings from the TARDIS!
