As with most of my projects, I encourage you to stop by your local thrift store where you may find many of the project components for a lot cheaper than you would new!
The Base:
Sand the wooden plaque first if you want (I didn't and I regret it!) and then paint a few layers with an acrylic paint of your choice and allow to dry.
Optional: If you decide to add decorative paper like I did, cut a piece of contact paper to size with extra, press down to the top of the plaque and trim off the excess. If using paper and Mod Podge, layer Mod Podge on both the plaque top and the back of the paper, then press the paper down. Allow to dry and add another layer of Mod Podge on top

The Rose:
Remove all leaves and extra pieces. Set them aside.
Cut the stem down to size and twist or manipulate it as you see fit.
*Oddly enough, the rose I picked had two colors of plastic on the stem that easily separated. Once I removed the darker colored plastic the rose was the perfect height for my bell dome!
Push back the petals to reveal the center of the rose. Wrap the lights around the center a few times and then around the next layer until you reach the outside. Try to evenly distribute the lights without bending them too much. Glue down the green petals (aka the sepal) to the base of the rose. Reattach whichever set of leaves you like best and glue down if necessary.
Take one end of a piece of fishing line and wrap it around the base of the rose. Tie a few knots to secure it and hot glue the base back on to the rose. Hide the fishing line under a petal, hot gluing it down if necessary.
Guesstimeasure about how much fishing line you will need and wrap the other end through the buttonholes. Cinch until it's the right size and tie a few knots to secure it. Add a little bit of hot glue over the knots to reinforce them.
The next part is tricky. We need to attach the button holding the fishing line to the inside of the bell dome to make the rose "float". I tried using hot glue at first but it didn't work well for me. Instead, put a nickel sized amount of E6000 glue on the inside top of the dome and do the same to the button. Following directions on the container, wait a minute or so for both sides to get tacky and then smoosh them together. Using any long stick or chopstick, keep the button in place until the glue has a secure enough grip by itself. Make sure your rose isn't touching any of the glue! Let it harden for a day or so in a well-ventilated area.
Finishing steps:
Cut the extra rose petals down and scatter them on the base
Wrap the remaining string of lights around the rose in a magical swirl down to the base of the stem.
Hot glue the battery box to the side of the plaque leaving the side that gives access to the batteries facing up.
Position the dome and hot glue down if you want to. (Be sure to clean the inside of the dome of fingerprints and loose glue strings before you do this!)
Et Voila! Your very own Enchanted Rose!
I love having this as a decoration in my room along with my other Beauty and the Beast items!
It looks so magical when the lights are on. The pictures don't do it full justice.
Are you excited for the new Beauty and the Beast film? I'm having a hard time hating Gaston this time because Luke Evans was in the Hobbit movies. (And he's really sexy)
